Madhya Pradesh Congress slammed Chief Minister Shivraj Singh alleging that the claims of high growth rate of the State are utter falsehoods spread by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government to spice up its electoral prospects by misleading people.
While talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ajay Singh said, “The Chief Minister has begun a different trend in politics by misleading people with false statistics as far as development and growth rate is concerned. The Congress will expose this before seven crore people of the State.”
Singh alleged that earlier Chouhan used to mesmerise people with his false promises and now he has become a ‘magician of statistics’ to project misleading image about the economic performance of the State.
“The ground reality here is very different from the statistics that is being propagandised by the Chief Minister,” said Ajay Singh, adding that Shivraj Singh Chouhan has spent more than Rs 50 crore on false propaganda that the State is at the top in terms of economic development. “Even a blind person knows the State is not No. 1 on growth chart,” Singh remarked.
Contrary to the claims of the Chief Minister, a recent ASSOCHAM report says that the State is placed number fifth from below. The letter of Planning Commission to the State also revealed that the State is in pitiable position in the index of growth rate, key sectors like health, education and potable water supply, Singh pointed out.
Even the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), in a report, has described the condition of schools and higher education in the State as poor, he claimed, adding that in reality, it is Puducherry which tops the growth rate chart in the country.
While per capita income in the country is `43,624, in Madhya Pradesh it is just `27,850. Also, MP was able to utilise only 45 per cent of the total agriculture land available in the State, the Opposition leader said.
These facts have exposed the BJP Government's tall claims about development and the people of the State will give it a befitting reply in the coming Assembly elections, the Congress leader maintained.
