MPBOU admin to start Ph D courses again

Staff Reporter

Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University (MPBOU) administration is preparing to start PhD courses in the university once again. However, this time, this course would be run with the help of Barkatullah University (BU).

The MPBOU had earlier stopped PhD course in 2009 after University Grant Commission (UGC) changed the admission process.

MPBOU will make agreement with Barkatullah University (BU) for the necessary PhD course work.

While the BU administration has not been able to start coursework of its own scholars question rises whether the agreement will hamper research work of scholars of both university.

UGC in 2009 issued new guidelines under which distance education universities were barred from carrying out PhD courses as coursework for the PhD scholars was made compulsory and which is not possible for the university administration to organise.

If any other university approves organising PhD coursework for MPBOU scholars then UGC will permit university to start PhD courses.

Along with many other universities MPBOU also stopped admission in PhD courses. Earlier MPBOU used to carry out PhD in 42 subjects along with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Management, IT, Fine arts, English, Hindi etc.

MPBOU newly appointed Vice Chancellor Tariq Zafar has chalked out the proposal for an agreement between the both universities which will result in MPBOU students getting their coursework done under the BU faculty and administration.

Zafar said that administration has sent a proposal in this regard to the BU administration and awaits response from them.

But the questions raises that BU is not able to get the coursework of its own scholars on time and regularly shortcomings in course material etc are surfacing then how will it handle the extra burden of Bhoj University scholars.

Presently coursework problem is persisting in four colleges of BU as the coursework material has not been delivered to them and BU itself is lagging behind the academic calendar by over six months.

BU Registrar Sanjay Tiwari said that no decision has been made over the proposal of MPBOU. University administration will take decision over the availability of resources.
