To save the old jail building from going into possession of the State Government, the jail headquarters has decided to make the old jail building functional. Several prisoners would soon be shifted to the old building from the new one.

After the new building of Central Jail Bhopal was constructed in 1990s, the jail was shifted there, but since then the State Government started eyeing this property lying in several acres in posh locality.

Knowing that the State Government was planning to take over the old jail building, the jail headquarters shifted jail headquarters in the old jail premises and recently, when the process again commenced, the old jail was declared as district jail of Bhopal.

Recently, when the Bhopal Development Authority's land in South and North TT Nagar was taken for construction of Smart City Project, the BDA submitted a proposal to the State Government for allotting it the old jail building and the land adjacent to it.

Jail official sources said that when the officials came to know about the proposal, they have again initiated the process for shifting inmates from the new jail to this old building. For the purpose, the employees of the jail department have started cleaning the premises.
