The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government on Thursday handed over the investigation to Economic Offence Wing (EoW) against three senior IPS officers and a state police service officer in political hawala scam of Kamal Nath government tenure.
IPS officers include –Susovan Banerjee, V Madhu Kumar and Sanjay Maane while state police service officer Arun Mishra too is under EOW scanner over his alleged role in police hawala scam. Arun Mishra was SP EOW during the tenure of Kamal Nath government.
Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta Establishment) Rajesh Mishra will lead the probe into the matter while ADG (EoW) Rajiv Tandon will monitor the enquiry.
Election Commission of India recently had written to the state government and Centre, suggesting action against several allegedly involved in the political hawala scam and the list included these police officers whose role was found to be dubious during Income Tax raids carried out ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Bhopal and other cities. ECI also had written to Centre seeking action on IPS officers.
ECI officers had recently handed over a detailed report (904 page) in the matter to Madhya Pradesh government recently.
The Delhi Directorate of Income Tax in year 2019 had detected a wide spread, organised racket of unaccounted cash of about Rs 281 crore in Madhya Pradesh.
