Husband and mother-in-law of a 22-year-old married woman were booked for abetment of suicide on Saturday by Govindpura police; deceased committed suicide by hanging with the ceiling on May 26 at her residence in Vishwakarma Nagar under Govindpura police station area.
Police said that deceased Durga Mandal’s husband Mithun Mandal and her mother-in-law Promila Mandal were booked for harassing the deceased.
In the investigation police found that soon after the marriage the two used to harass her and it was also confirmed by the family members of the deceased that she used to face harassment.
Notably, on May 26 Durga committed suicide but no reason behind the suicide was found from the spot. later in the investigation police found that the deceased was harassed by her husband and mother-in-law and frustrated over their behavior she committed suicide.
The deceased hailed from Betul and came to the city few days ago. The deceased was spotted hanging by her husband after he returned from work.
Investigating Officer ASI Dayashankar Tiwari said that the deceased got married around a month ago and the two accused used to harass her. She was confined in the house and was not allow moving out of the house. The atrocities of the two accused forced her to take the extreme step.
The police have registered a case under section 306 of the CrPC and have started further investigation. Details of dowry demands or any other kind of demands raised by the accused which was the reason behind the harassment would be investigated.
