The adverse impact of the changes in the society brought about by the new technologies has become visible. For example, complaints of women regarding incessant chatting by their husbands on Facebook and WhatsApp with other women is not new but recently husbands were found complaining the same regarding their wives.
One such incident was recently reported at Gauravi centre at the JP hospital. In a few cases of frustration of husbands resulted in domestic violence but the solution of the problem is yet to be found.
Around four cases of such nature were registered with the Gauravi centre in which medical and counselling support were provided to the couples.
The main reason of fight between the spouses was chatting on social networking sites and that too secretly with their friends and many have locked applications using passwords. Husbands have complaints that several numbers are saved under the name ‘unknown’ in their wife’s phone.
After counselling the complainant wives have assured to refrain from such practice while in the remaining two cases the wives are yet to visit the centres for counselling and discussing the problem.
Senior Family counsellor Rita Tulli said that it is the beginning and the pattern is likely to continue in the coming days. However, till date very few cases have been reported but we could not deny that the number is too small but the fact is that cases of such nature are not reported.
There are two aspects of everything and the wives should use the technology for maintaining communication with family and friends and should not indulge in wrong practices as it will endanger their relationship, she added.
In a few cases it was witnessed that husbands have even smashed mobile phones of their wives which is not a good practice. Counselling could help but the wives should also avoid such things which could make their relationship bitter.
Coordinator of Gauravi centre Shivani Saini said that the trend is prevalent but men having such problems have not reported. The pattern surfaced only after the women complainants who faced domestic violence complained but the fact that they were also contributing in augmenting the problem was revealed in the counselling sessions.
The social networking sites and mobile messaging apps are good platforms but they should not be misused, said Saini.
