The mining mafia struck again on Tuesday in Madhya Pradesh, this time the target of mafia was the senior Congress leader Manak Agarwal, though the police have not confirmed the attack till the filing of the report.

Agarwal in a statement informed that he was attacked by the sand mafia at Amawad mine of Nasrullagunj in Sehore district.

“On being appraised by the Congress workers that despite court’s ban on Amawad mine on the banks of Narmada river unabated illegal mining of sand is going on by a private company, we reached the mine where we found large number of trucks parked, of these trucks 40 were loaded with sand and ready to move, when the Congress workers tried to stop these trucks, the goons of mafia attacked us by cudgels.”

Agarwal further said that the mafia goons after having scuffle with the Congress workers took away the sand trucks. In the mean time, it started raining and the Congress workers led by Agarwal started sit-ing under a tree to protest the incident demanding action against the mafia.

On the other hand, when the superintendent of police was asked about the attack he replied that he does not have any information about attack on Congress leader and workers. A team of mining department has gone to the Amawad mine and information of dispute with that team is reported, he added.

Meanwhile, leader of opposition in the state assembly Ajay Singh while condemning the attack by mining mafia on senior party leader Manak Agarwal demanded chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s resignation.

Singh said, “We were getting information that large scale illegal mining is going on in this area, whereas the court has stayed mining in three mines of this area and Agarwal was deputed by me to inspect the same.”

He said that large scale illegal mining is going on in many parts of the state under the patronage of BJP leadership.
