The charm of golf is bewitching. The melodious chunk of the ball as the club strikes the ball before it soars on its long flight and lands on the green can be addictive. Some compare playing golf to attainment of Nirvana. The winner of the tournament expressed a similar sentiment when he said, “The shots just seemed to happen. The rhythm was too good”. It would seem that he was talking about meditation. Golf can be meditative in many ways.
Walking on the green with awareness of being close to nature amidst the chirping of the birds can induce calmness. Another golfer, who prefers to remain anonymous, said, “Self discipline and integrity are intrinsic to golf. That’s one good reason why the services promote golf as a sport”. As cities get congested and pollution increases, golf helps in preserving the green cover and act as the green lungs of the cities.
