Mayor initiates process to make Bhopal cattle free

SR

Mayor Malti Rai has taken a tough stand regarding the dairies running in the heart of the city. To make Bhopal cattle free, she has started an initiative related to dairy displacement. Along with this, the officials have been asked why these dairies run in the middle of the city and why they have not been moved out.

Let us inform you that for the last 46 years, plans are being made to take the dairies out of the city in the capital. At present their number has reached 750. For the first time in Bhopal, the exercise to displace dairy outside the city was started in 1976, which could not be completed till now.

Here, in 2016, on the orders of the NGT, the government had declared the city as a Cattle Free Zone, banning animal rearing in the residential areas of big cities.

Under the guide line for dairy displacement, land will be allotted at concessional rates outside the corporation limits to those dairy operators who have Gumasta license of 2015 or earlier and registration of milk union.

According to the corporation officials, 90 percent of these dairy operators do not have Gumasta license and milk union registration. In such a situation, the corporation administration had sent a proposal to the government to relax the dairy shifting guide line two years ago.

For dairy displacement, the district administration had allotted seven acres of land to the corporation at seven places in all four directions outside the city, where till now the corporation could not provide basic facilities like roads, electricity and water. As a result, dairy displacement is stalled.

To displace 750 dairies operating in the city, the district administration has allotted land to the corporation in villages Deepadi, Parwalia, Arvaliya, Kalapani, Tumda, Mugaliakot and Kalapani.
