Accusing the Public Works Department (PWD) for the situation, Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma sat in the middle of a water-logged street on Thursday.

He called Revenue Commissioner stating that he has complained time and again that such situations keep happening as the agencies do not work. He also complained that every year the authorities assure of the work but nothing takes place.

He said, “I am not sitting on dharna. I called the Collector regarding the matter. The authorities’ say that they will complete the work then why did the work not complete.”

Since the State capital witnessed incessant heavy rains throughout the night, the Mayor informed that he was sitting in the control room since 5 am taking stock of the situation. “We are sending our teams. I have been appealing this for years to have a nodal agency made for every department.” He sat in protest in a water logged area in Bhopal’s walled city area Safia College road against inaction by the PWD. The road which connects to commercial zone of Hamidia road is usually floods after short spell of rainfall.

Sharma was seen resting on iron chair in the middle of the water logged road and made calls to top official from district administration seeking action to resolve the problem.

A senior Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) official slipped in drainage near Safia College and was injured in the incident. The water which was witnessed descends from areas which are located at higher level Noor Mahal, Motia Talab and Fatehgarh.

In the protest Sharma said that the problem is due to encroachments but the problem was not resolved due to lack of coordination. After the incident senior officials from administration have scheduled a meeting on Saturday.
