The theatre-goers of the city witnessed the essence of the marital relationship between a couple and their hardships in a Hindi play ‘May Be This Summer’. The play was staged here on Thursday at Shaheed Bhawan as a part of 12th National Rang Alaap Theatre Festival 2013.
Written and Directed by Tripurari Sharma presented by Unicorn Actors Studio, New Delhi. Individual freedom, social and cultural conflicts are the highlights of the play which also deals with the people who come from villages and live in metropolitan cities.
These people adopt the city culture fast. So, the play raises certain questions: do their moral values allow them to adopt this
cultureIJ Are they satisfied with the situation they are inIJ Two characters, a boy and a girl, who live in a metro city, are in live-in relationship. Both of them have a rural background and have come to the city to do jobs and build their career. Both have different views and values.
After some times, the girl tells her partner to marry her but he refuses to do it, raising question on its necessity. On his refusal, fierce arguments, which take place between them daily, gradually turn into run-ons. Finally, after several rounds of ruction, when the man agrees to marry her, love they were in and desired for, wears out. Thus, the relationship is not the same again. Gouri Dewal as girl and Tikam Joshi as boy were in lead roles and managed to grab the applauses of the audiences.
Set, lights and recorded music were used to paint the mood of the play. Theatre actor Gouri said, “It’s the first show of the play in Bhopal. The play tells the tale of youth’s life at present time and values of men and women. The script of the play is strong. I’ve liked the city; and I want to perform here again. Besides, the audience has the understanding of the intensity of acting.”
