Massive fire erupts at Adampur yard

Staff Reporter

A massive fire broke out at a dumping yard in the Adampur area on the outskirts of Bhopal on Tuesday afternoon, causing widespread panic as thick smoke billowed into the sky, visible from several kilometers away. The incident raised environmental and health concerns among residents living in nearby localities.

According to civic officials, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by the accumulation of methane gas generated from decomposing waste materials, combined with the intense heat prevailing in the region. The Ahmedpur landfill is a key site where waste from a significant portion of Bhopal city is collected and deposited.

Firefighting operations were launched swiftly, with two fire tenders deployed at the site. A pipeline laid to supply water to the yard was activated, but the operation was delayed due to a leak in the pipeline, which temporarily hindered water supply. Despite the challenges, the fire was eventually brought under control after several hours of effort.
