Angry over 'no entry' of bikes in Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) students took to streets at 9 am on Monday to protest and demand to allow bikes inside the premises.
The students remained in the campus even after 3 pm. Their demand is that permission should be given to take bikes inside MANIT. So that, they do not face any problem.
Meanwhile, MANIT management has also discussed with the students.
MANIT management said that the exercise to make the campus a green campus started about 3 months ago. Therefore, taking bikes inside the campus was banned. Many students are coming by bicycle. At the same time, electric buses have also been started in the campus from this Sunday.
On Monday morning at 9 am, many students came out of the campus and started protesting. They said that most of the students are from outside cities. They live here on rent which is located in distant places. Many times connecting buses are not available. In such a situation, there are problems in coming to MANIT. Therefore, they should be allowed to bring bikes. At 3 pm, the management met the protesting students.
During the protest, ABVP also submitted a memorandum to the MANIT management. In which the demands related to the students were told. It was said that it is right to move towards a clean campus green campus, but it is wrong to ban vehicles immediately. Due to this, the students are facing problems. They are commuting by four buses and some bicycles.
Among the other demands, the student body said that voice of the students is suppressed due to the absence of elections of the Students Council in MANIT. Therefore, elections should be held soon.
The quality of food in the mess should be taken care of and there should be transparency in the operation of the mess. The operation of the mess in number-7 and 12 hostels should be given back to the girl students.
There is a need for quality in libraries, gym, sports, medical. Also, time should be increased so that students can take full advantage.
Insects are found in water coolers in the hostel, water tanks are not cleaned, plaster is falling off from the walls, washrooms are not cleaned and the condition of toilets is pathetic. Therefore, the hostel should be rebuilt.
