In a gruesome incident, a man apparently peeved over illicit relation of his wife, killed her by strangulating her and slitting open her throat with a knife.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday morning in Ganga Nagar locality of the city.
The accused identified as Pankaj after intensive grueling by the police confessed to his crime. According to SP, D Kalyan Chakravarty, Pankaj had a serious tiff with his wife Ravina on Wednesday night over her alleged affairs with two boys.
On being interrogated by the police, Pankaj said that he had grown suspicious about his wife after he read a message on her mobile phone texted by a boy of the colony wishing her on her birthday on August 19 last month. Pankaj said in reply to her birth day wish, his wife had sent `I love you’ message to the boy. After seeing the message on her mobile phone, Pankaj said he became restless had been scheming to kill his wife on account of her affairs.
Police said Pakaj and his wife Ravina had a serious tiff in their house at 3 am on Wednesday night over her alleged affair. later, Pankaj strangulated her to death and slit open her throat. After killing her, he scattered goods of his room so as to create an impression of burgling of the house of thieves or dacoits. Thereafter, he broke open widow panes of his room and got himself injured. As the day broke out, he went upstairs and knocked the room of his in-laws in panicky. When the incident came to light on Thursday morning, police reached the incident site and took Pankaj into custody and it was only after his intensive grueling that he confessed to his crime.
