Man fakes death of non-existent ‘mother' to land govt job

Staff Reporter

A shocking case of fraud has emerged from the Rewa district education office, where a man secured a government job through a fake compassionate appointment by falsely claiming the death of a woman who never worked in the education department.

The accused, Brijesh Kol, a resident of Parasia village in Tyonthar tehsil, forged documents claiming his ‘mother’, Bela Kali Kol, an assistant teacher, had died. On this basis, he obtained a peon’s position at Government Higher Secondary School, Jaudori, in Gangev block. However, it was later revealed that Bela Kali Kol never held any government post and had no relation to Brijesh.

The fraud surfaced when the school principal flagged discrepancies during salary processing. An inquiry ordered by District Education Officer (DEO) Sudama Gupta exposed five more fraudulent appointments across blocks like Tighra, Bida, Ataria, Semaria, and Gangev. These included individuals such as Om Prakash Kol, Sushma Kol, Vinay Rawat, Hiramani Rawat, and Rama Dwivedi — all allegedly employed using forged documents.

Collector Pratibha Pal confirmed that 36 compassionate appointments were made over the past year. Ten of those appointed failed to present original documents when summoned. Of them, five were found to have submitted entirely fake paperwork, including fabricated death certificates and police verifications.

An FIR has been registered against six individuals, including a clerk responsible for processing the appointments. The clerk has been suspended, and departmental action has been recommended against the DEO and other officials involved.

“A thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will follow,” said Additional SP Aarti Singh, noting the fake appointments spanned from December 2024 to April 2025.

The case is being investigated under cheating and forgery sections at Civil Lines police station.
