Goods said to be worth crores of rupees were destroyed in a fire at a rice factory in Mandideep area in the wee hours of Saturday.

Estimates of around Rs 200 to Rs 300 crore loss is being circulated but the exact amount of loss could be ascertained only after the fire is doused completely. To control the fire, around 40 fire tenders from Hoshangabad, Budhni, Raisen, BHEl, police department, Bhopal and Mandideep were rushed.

However, no casualties were reported in the incident. It is a massive fire and would take possibly two more days to be douses completely, said an official of the fire services. The main concern was to contain the fire and save the adjoining factories, he added.

Raisen district acting Collector Anurag Choudhary said that goods worth crores of rupees were gutted. No injuries have been reported.   An official of the fire brigade, Sajid Khan said that the fire was first noticed in the wee hours and BMC officials were informed immediately. On receipt of the information fire tenders were rushed to the spot but by the time the fire brigade reached the fire had taken a massive form.

The company's whole consignment is insured. Only an inquiry will find out what caused the fire.
