SR

Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress president Archana Jaiswal on Monday alleged that Congress leader Urmila Gurjar was tortured in the police custody.

After meeting Gurjar in the hospital, Jaiswal while talking to media alleged that not only was Gurjar beaten, but she was also tortured otherwise in an inhuman manner.

Gurjar, Mahila Congress chief from Morena district led an anti-encroachment agitation here on June 6. Police had registered a case of obstructing official work against Gurjar, Jaiswal added.

Inspector General (IG) Chambal Range SM Afzal said that as a private complaint had been filed in the court on the issue, the police would follow the court's directives. About the allegation of torture, he said it was being probed.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal in a statement here on Monday criticised the incidence of pregnancy test carried out on tribal girls during a mass marriage programme at Hardu village in Betul district of the State. “This is a direct attack on the dignity of Tribals,” Jaisawal said.

She said that it is not for the first time that the girls of the state have been insulted like this in the state chief minister of that claims to be Mama of the all girls. Similar incidences have been reported on earlier occasions also, she added.

She said that crime against women is on the rise in the state, minor girls are becoming victims of criminals who are roaming free fearlessly in the society, but it seems that neither the chief minister nor his Government seems to bother from these incidences.
