A scintillating Kathak performance took away the hearts of Bhopalites. On the second day of a three-day dance festival, spell bounding kathak was performed at Shaheed Bhavan on Thursday.
Performed by Alpana Vajpayee and her troupe the evening witnessed blissful performances back-to-back. To begin with the kathak performances, Alpana Vajpayee performed Ganesh Stuti. It was based on Kritya Kavya by Tulsidas. She performed the Ganesh Stuti in Raga Bhupali teen taal.
She then performed, ‘Nritta’. It was based on the bandish of Raja Chakradhar. Her energetic performance and early proficiency in the mathematical aspects of Kathak mesmerized the audiences at the show.
Alpana then performed Thumri in Abhinaya. She refined the dramatic and rhythmic aspects, delighting audiences with the performance over rhythm and the stylized presentation. Followed with the performances, Alpana and her troupe members enthralled the audience with spontaneous performances.
The Kaunch Vadh, one of the episodes of Ramayana was heartwarming. Then she performed Shiva Strot and ended the performance with Tapobhang.
Bestowed with natural beauty, talent and grace, she is an accomplished Kathak dancer whose facial expressions complement her dance and make her performance superbly stunning. Ability to effortlessly move from one character to another in split of seconds has helped her in winning over the audience.
Subtle ‘Abhinay’ (Acting), lithe and elegant footwork, graceful movements are some of the fine hallmarks of her performance. A magnetic stage presence and complete mastery of technical nuances made her performance enjoyable.
