JMM writes to EC for Model Code violation

PNS

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Thursday took a tough stand against the recent decision of State Cabinet to amend the CNT and SPT Acts for the benefits of the tribal communities. The party wrote to the Election Commission of India seeking action against CM Ragubar Das for violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

The party has stated that the Model Code of Conduct was in effect in the State owing to the beginning of bypoll process for two Assembly constituencies of the State scheduled for May 16. It further stated that Jharkhand comes under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution and different Tenancy Acts are in effect in the State. Godda and Palamu districts, where the by-elections are taking place, are under the Fifth Schedule.

The party has contended that when the Model Code of Conduct is in effect, the Government has violated the rules by passing proposals of amendment in CNT and SPT Acts by the Cabinet. Moreover, it has been taking decisions every week to misguide the voters. The party has further called the Cabinet decision to be an act of alluring the voters and has sought disciplinary action against the Government and an FIR against the CM who is head of the Cabinet.
