JK Hospital and lN Medical College and Research Centre in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) observed World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7 that aims to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

During the week-long activities, people were sensitised about the goodness of breast milk that it is the best diet for your baby, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition, in addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect your baby from illness.

Dr Rashmi Dwivedi, Head of the Pediatric Department at JK Hospital, said that breastfeeding helps protect the child from gastroenteritis, ear infections, diarrhea, etc, which is not possible with Formula Milk. Also, the Relationship between mother and child gets better through breastfeeding. Children who breastfeed improve their mental development, and in the future, such children are less prone to allergies. During breastfeeding, the other elements that fight against antibodies and germs reach the child from the mother and the child's immune system increases.

The Chairman of lNCT group Anupam Chowkey added that World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year from August 1 to 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

Being a Medical Institution we have taken it as a responsibility to promote this special week, we emphasize the value of breastfeeding for mothers as well as children. As the medical science recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and then supplemented breastfeeding for at least one year and up to two years or more. But breastfeeding has reached its lowest level in the 21st century, according to the WHO, in most countries, the rate of breastfeeding is below 50 per cent which is a big concern,
