PNS

A local court here on Monday extended till July 27 the police remand of Dr Jagdish Singh Sagar, main accused in the Madhya Pradesh PMT examination racket. During the police remand, Dr Sagar will remain in the custody of Rajendra Nagar police.

Earlier, Dr Sagar accompanied by large posse of police force arrived in the Court First Session Judicial Magistrate BK Tyagi where the police sought further police remand for the accused on the plea that they are yet to scrutinise documents seized from the residence of Sagar during the past few days and his further interrogation by the police in connection with PMT exam racket. Taking cognizance of the pleas, the court while extending police remand for Dr Sagar till July 27, handed him over to Rajendra Nagar police station.

Dr Sagar, the alleged kingpin of an inter-state gang running an impersonation racket related to Madhya Pradesh Pre-medical Test (PMT), was arrested by the crime branch of Indore police from Mumbai last week.

The accused who had been evading his arrest ever since Indore police unearthed a racket of `Munnabhais’ in connection with the sate PMT examination scam this month, was arrested from a hotel in Mumbai  with the help of Maharashtra Police.

Prior to his arrest, city police had arrested as many as 20 members of the `Munnabhai’ gang who used to write entrance examination for admission to medical colleges in the State on behalf of other candidates, a day before the PMT examination held this month.

Over the past few days, police have raided the residence of Dr Sagar in Indore thrice and stumbled upon a large number of incriminating documents related to the PMT examination scam, besides seizing cash to the tune of lakhs of rupees and other documents showing his huge investment in property across the country.

The police investigations into MP Pre-Medical Test (MP-PMT) impersonation racket had brought to fore the close link Dr Jagdish Singh Sagar had with officials of Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) that conducts the examinations. The diary seized from Sagar’s house also revealed roll numbers and seating plans of his client that were similar to that declared by the board.

After revelation of their names, these officials were suspended from the MPPEB. Scanning of Sagar’s diary revealed the roll number and seating plan for over 200 clients for the MPPMT held on July 7 matched exactly with the actual plan finalised by the board.
