IT dept holds workshop on Migration from Internet Protocol V4 to IPV6

SR

Madhya Pradesh Department of Information Technology conducted a workshop on Migration from IPV4 to IPV6 here today. At the workshop, information was given to all departments about on the technique of internet protocol versions-6 (IPV6) and its implications in future of internet-based services.

At the workshop, all government departments were apprised of objectives of linking up with IPV6 and departments were asked to furnish basic database information in the first phase. At the workshop, it was informed that all the computers interconnect with each other through a special addressing system. It is known as internet protocol.

The current technology is IPV4-based having a 32-bit addressing space of only 4 billion devices. Its capacity is on the verge of exhaustion now. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt new addressing system IPV6. IPV6 technology has a 128 bit address space, which will be millions more than previous system. After implementation of system, all the equipments connected with internet will have their own unique addressed. Ability will be developed to control them from any part of the world. These equipments may include mobile phones, electricity meters, GPS tracking devices, security systems, domestic appliances etc.

Action is being ensured in all the sectors for this futuristic change. The Government of India has attached high priority to it. The workshop is part of these efforts.

At the workshop, Secretary IT Hari Ranjan Rao, SWAN Network and State Data Centre’s Project Director Sandeep Kolwadkar, Union Director Telecommunications N Ram, Rupindar Singh and Harpreet Singh, Anup Pandey of Sisco of Sixmetrix and Shri Rahu Swaroop apprised the participants of IPV6 technique. Technical officers and experts of various departments participated in the workshop. During question hour, problems and queries were also redressed.

As per instructions of the Union Government directives have been given to all States to chalk out an action plan and complete the process by December 2013. In MP, IPV4-based infrastructure has to be switched over to IPV6. Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Corporation has been appointed as nodal agency for this work by the State Government.
