Innovative bicycle scheme in Gwalior to control pollution

PNS

An innovative bicycle scheme will be introduced in the city from June to tackle the persistent pollution problems and congestion. As per this scheme, Smart City Development Corporation will provide the citizens with bicycles on hire. The Corporation has already entered into an agreement with the Tata Group Companies for this.

It is expected that the bicycle will make a comeback to the overcrowded roads of the city, choked with four and two wheelers. The attractive part of the scheme is that citizens don’t even have to own a cycle; the Corporation will provide it on hire.

Talking to the media persons, Mahip Tejaswi, The CEO of the Smart City Project said that this is an innovative scheme to reduce both air- pollution and congestion. He said that membership is mandatory to hire a bicycle. He further said that all the bicycles will be fitted with solar panels and there will be provision to lock the cycles using mobile. The cycles will also have GPS system that will be connected to the main centre. The rider can take the cycle from one station and drop it in the next station if he wishes. The depositing of the cycle in the next station will be done with the assistance of an app.

Apart from reducing pollution and congestion in the city this environmentally friendly mode of transportation has great health benefits too.

Thus it not only promotes a better environment but also good health. If implemented properly this scheme has the potential to perk up the environment in the city by reducing the number of cars and other vehicles that are the biggest sources of greenhouse gases.

Apart from air pollution, cycling can reduce noise pollution to a great extent. One hopes the city will soon be freed from pollution, congestion and the never ending traffic jams through this scheme.
