On this occasion of international day of the World’s Indigenous People, IGRMS has organised a colloquium to discuss on the theme given by the United Nations for this year. The theme for 2017 is ‘10th Anniversary of the UN declaration on the rights of Indigenous People’. Shiv Kumar Pandey, the Retired Joint Director from TRI BPl and Vasant Nirgune, The Research Officer from MA AlK academy, was the key speaker.
In his deliberation, Pandey focused on the forest and the tribal. He said that from the very beginning the forest man the main resources of the livelihood of the tribal’s. The whole life of the tribal’s was based on the forest and therefore they did not destroy the forest but they used the forest materials as per their need.
But today we are making them responsible for deforestation, which is wrong. Now we must allow them to live with the forest. So they can be the better protector of the forest.
Nirgune has focused on the people, land and the life of the tribals. He was of the opinion that the tribal’s should have the right to the full enjoyment as the community or an individual. And the tribal’s will lead a joyful life only if they are given all the rights to their land, culture and the environment. Nirgune said that today there are two main cultures prevailing in the society, that are ‘Adim culture’ and ‘Bikshit culture’.
The Bikshit culture or developed culture has introduced many advanced technologies, which ultimately caused responsible for the displacement of the tribal’s.
Hence we must respect the right of life of the tribal’s, keeping in view to the national charter also.
