The first director and visionary of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Prof Raghunath Singh Negi passed away in Dehradun on Sunday.

Negi is remembered as the first Director, Founder, visionary and more as an energetic, dedicated officer and colleague. It was in the tenure of Dr Negi, when IGRMS was transferred from Delhi and gained a suitable campus. He was OSD and Director of IGRMS from February, 1979 to 1989. He had special contribution in making of Human Evolution Gallery even 1.5 decades after his retirement.

He further said, “He was a visionary, who laid the founding stones of this museum on a 200 acres barren piece of land. During his decade long tenure he was engrossed in development of Manav Sangrahalaya only, like the true head of family. The ideal tribute to Negi is by completing the tasks he envisioned.”

It was during his tenure the 200 acres land acquisition and creation of indoor & outdoor exhibitions was done. It was he who taught me developing structure out of nowhere using Photos and Sketches and the outcome of that is visible to all.”

Retired Assistant Curator Display, Ravi Shrivas shared about his interview with Negi and gave brief details about the work done under his leadership. In the condolence meeting, Assistant Curator, Arun Kiro gave brief introduction of Dr Negi and the programme was coordinated by Publication Officer, Sudhir Shrivastava.
