The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soybean Research is organizing an online collaborative training programme on ‘Climate Smart Technologies & Practices for Increasing the Soybean Productivity’ with about 160 officers and scientists belonging to State agricultural departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of major soybean growing States of India like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
On the third day of the programme, Sanjeev Kumar, Scientist (Plant Pathology) explained about symptoms and control measures for various diseases like bacterial pustule, bacterial blight, rust and Yellow mosaic Virus commonly reported in soybean.
He advised the use of disease free seed and spray of kasugamysin @ 0.2 % at 15-day intervals for control of bacterial blight disease in soybean. “However for the prevention and control of disease incited by Yellow Mosaic Virus, seed treatment with thiamethoxam (10ml/kg) and spray Thiamethoxam 25 WG @100g/ha will help to a large extent”, he said.
In another session Punam Kuchlan, Senior Scientist (Seed Technology) advocated polymer coating method for seed treatment. The method is proved to be significant in preventing various fungal, bacterial and viral diseases, and which can be done using a low cost machine with a mere expenditure of Rs 75,000 that can be used by whole village by sharing it.
P Balasubramani, Director, National Institute of Agricultural Management invited concerted efforts for participatory promotion of climate smart technologies using various popular mechanisms like ATMA, ICT tools, public private partnership for value addition and processing of soybean based technologies.
B. U. Dupare and Dr Savita Kolhe, Principal Scientists of ICAR-IISR presented different social media tools and software applications developed by the institute namely “Soybean Gyan” mobile app, soybean insect management system, expert system for disease diagnosis, farmers advisory systems etc dedicated in the service of different stakeholders involved in soybean production chain.
