Demanding Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) fraud, BJP vice president and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti has asked Director General of Police (DGP) that her statement should be recorded in the scam, if her name has figured during the investigation.
In a letter to the DGP Nandan Dube, Bharti pointed out that 10 days ago she herself had held a Press conference and demanded that the MPPEB scam was a serious matter and should be handed over to a competent probe agency.
"If the Government wanted, it could transfer the case to CBI," she said. Her political career was spotless and she was surprised to read her name in the news reports which quoted 'STF sources', she said. "I am ready to cooperate with the probe by recording my statement in the matter," she added. She also fixed an appointment with the DGP on Friday and she will be visiting the police headquarters (PHQ) to get her statements recorded in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh police's Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday said it had not named BJP's national vice-president and former Chief Minister Uma Bharti in any of the first information reports (FIRs) in the MPPEB scam.
"We have not named her in any FIR," a top STF official told here, when asked about news reports in this regard. The scam relates to recruitment for various Government jobs, including contractual teachers.
Notably, few newspapers on Thursday morning had created sensation by mentioning that Bharti's name has figured in the FIR or during the investigation related to the MPPEB scam.
Since, FIR has been registered against former Technical Education Minister laxmikant Sharma, BJP leader and mining bacon Sudhir Sharma, Congress leader Sanjeev Saxena and several others, the case has become high-profile.
On Thursday, police again produced two accused Pankaj Trivedi and Nitin Mohindra in a local court that handed over their custody to police once again for one day.
