The Bhopalites witnessed a wonderful presentation of Munshi Premchand’s short stories in a form of play. A Hindi play Holi Ka Uphaar was staged at Shaheed Bhawan here on Monday as a part of a three-day theatre festival. The theatre festival ‘Aadranjali’ is being organized by Children’s Theatre Group to observe death anniversary of a noted playwright BV Karanth.

The play is a combination of two short stories by Munshi Premchand Vichitra Holi and Holi Ka Uphaar. Directed Chitransh Pawar the play is written by Aruni Parmal and Nilesh Soni. The play was wonderfully performed by the artists of Children’s Theatre Academy.

The play began with introducing the time of Swadesi Movement that was led by Mahatma Gandhi across the nation in 1905. All the Indians were asked to boycott the British stuff and use khadi. As the movement was in full swing, a man named Amarkant planned to visit his fiancé.

As he planned to go to his in-laws place, he also wished to buy some gift for his would be wife. His friends advised Amarkant to buy a good quality sari for her.

But, here the problem arises for Amarkant, as a good quality sari would only be available in cloth imported from England. Moreover, it would be really expensive to buy.

Amarkant then decided to steal the good quality sari for her fiancé from the shop of lala Ram. This way he will not only be a part of the movement, but will also present a beautiful gift to his wife.

later in the night, Amarkant steals the sari from the shop and tries to run away, but is caught. Amarkant try to explain in every possible way, but nothing worked out. Soon, lala Ram’s daughter Sukhda came to identify Amarakant and then what took place next formed rest of the story.

As many as 35 artists were seen together on the stage and managed to maintain the interest of the audience for 105 minutes. The simple costumes and the less set background were also appealing to the eyes. Moreover, the mild use of lighting added more zeal in the presentation.
