Reaching till here was not an easy task. But it is said, where there’s a will there’s a way,” says Sunny Chatterjee of Kings United-India. The member of hip hop world champions Kings United-India was in Bhopal to train the dancing aspirants of the city. He was a part of a special hip-hop dance workshop organised by Mack Dance Cultural Institute, Bhopal.
In a candid rendezvous with The Pioneer, Sunny shared his dancing journey to world championship. He also talked about his struggles and his love for Hip Hop dancing style.
Kings United India is a hip-hop dance troupe that was the first Indian team to win Bronze medal at the World Hip Hop Championship, 2015 in San Diego. Suresh Mukund is the choreographer and director of the group.
About world championship Sunny said, “It needs a lot of practice and hard work to reach your goal and so the kings united did.” Interestingly in just 25 days, the troupe prepared for the world hip-hop dance championship.
“It was world hip-hop dance championship and not a joke. But our choreographer Mukund said just let’s give us a try. It was just a month left; we practice hard and finally reached California. There too we practiced in rain and in open grounds as auditorium was not available at that time. But, after all the hardships, we did it. And did it pretty well,” he shared contentedly.
It was in year 2009 when Mukund along with one of his friends performed hip hop dancing and participated in reality shows including Boogie Woogie as ‘Ficticious Dance Group’. The group was also a part of Any Body Can Dance (ABCD)-2 and worked with Varun Dhawan and choreographer Remo D’suza.
