The untold dreams of an elderly were narrated through a Hindi play ‘Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai’. The play was staged here on Tuesday at Bharat Bhavan, Antarang Auditorium. The play is written by eminent author, Srikant Apte, and is directed by a well-known theatre director, KG Trivedi. The artistes of Trikashi theatre group presented the play before the audiences.
‘Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai’. The play displayed the unfulfilled desires of two retired friends. The script undoubtedly lessens the gap between the audiences and the theatre plays, as the audiences could relate their stories with the story of the play.
The protagonist Sadananda Joshi takes the narrative on an interesting journey through his hilarious but sensible activities. Moreover, punches used through the protagonist are far effective.
It shares the desires of Sadananda Joshi, who wishes to change his attire from a simple kurta-pyjama to T-shirt and pants. Besides, Ghanshyam’s (friend of Joshi) wit and Rama’s (Joshi’s wife) reservations tend to tighten Sadananda Joshi’s aspirations at the age retirement and they too put him under deep temptation of breaking odd dogmas.
The characters in the play seem to be entangled in their own complications and their efforts to overcome these complications, which in turn creates more troublesome situations.
This play also reveals the intricacies of bureaucratic conceits and the desire of the middle class to attain that height which would level them to the position of their bosses on the basis of efforts made in building up the system.
The experimental approach of the playwright could be taken as an effort of the playwright to narrow down the widening gap between theatre and the audience. The play creates the satire and left the audiences whirled in the strokes of laughter.
The play has been presented many times on the stage of the city and has also received an overwhelming response by the theatre lovers every time it was staged. Though being a satire, the play also touches one of the most sensitive issues. The play creatively unveils petty human splurge which bars individuals from an honest expression and desire.
