The Madhya Pradesh High Court Indore bench deferred its decision on the bail plea of IMC Mayor-in-council member Suraj Kairo till July 3.
Kairo along with eight other former IMC officials and former corporators including Kailash Yadav and Rajendra Soni had been sent to jail on Monday last after their bail plea had been rejected by a local court in connection with Meghdoot Garden scam rocked Indore municipal corporation 12 years back.
The High Court was supposed to take up bail plea application of Kairo, the incharge of IMC revenue department today.
However, for some unexplained reason the HC did not take up the bail plea application of Kairo and deferred it till July 3 next month. With this, the beleaguered Kairo will have to remain in jail for some more days. The lokayukta police had produced charge-sheet in a local court here on Monday against Kairo and nine others in connection with scam in construction works of Meghdoot garden and accordingly submitted a 4,500 pages challans in the court in connection with the case which dates back to 200-2003.
The accused according to lokayukta charge-sheet against them, had incurred a loss of Rs 34 lakh to the exchequer through malpractices in construction work and maintenance of Meghdoot Garden between 2000 and 2003.The scam came to light after the then IMC corporator, Chhotu Shukla lodged a complaint with the lokayukta police alleging the then corporators and officers of the IMC associated with the garden work in an unholy nexus with some persons and incurred loss to the tune of lakhs of rupees to the IMC exchequer. During preliminary investigation, the lokayukta police found the complaint true and accordingly registered a case on June 5, 2008.
