With a view to encourage non-motorised means of transport the Gwalior Smart City Development Corporation has initiated plans to implement the first phase of non-motorized corridor at Maharaja Bada.
With this initiative the highly congested Maharaja Bada is expected to become a ‘no vehicle’ zone, where henceforth only cycles and golf carts will be allowed to ply. The Smart City Corporation has also plans to get rid of the police outpost and park situated at the center of Maharaja Bada.
The final decision for the implementation of the plan was made after the Smart City CEO Mahip Tejaswi and other officials of the corporation inspected the area. According to sources in the Smart City Corporation the final DPR will be completed within 25 days and invitations for tenders will be sent out soon after.
The Corporation has also plans to give a facelift to Subhash Market which houses 350 shops and currently is in a depleted condition. With the renovation of the market, The Corporation expects to raise the commercial value of it besides providing an alternate arrangement for the numerous hawkers who are adding to the congestion of the area. The proposed four storied shopping complex will have basement parking and other facilities for shopkeepers and customers.
Twenty cycles and 10 golf carts will be kept near the scout building and Town Hall for those who wish to use them. Officials of the Smart City said that the number of cycles and golf carts will be increased as and when there is a higher demand. According to the plans a huge underground parking will be constructed near the Gorkhi School and the old collectorate.
The Tourist Information Center located near the Victoria Market too will be refurbished giving it a heritage look. The Corporation also has plans to give chemical treatment to historical monuments in and around Bada to give them a fresh look.
Speaking to the media persons, MahipTejaswi, the CEO of the Smart City project said that all the plans related to making Bada an NMT Corridor have been finalized and work will commence in October. He added that in the first phase the underground parking will be constructed.
