Former zonal officer of Gwalior Municipal Corporation was on Tuesday arrested and sent to jail on the charge of bagging cash by forging fake employees. With this legal action, others involved in similar illegal practices are reeling under fear.

Official sources said that since one case of the kind has come to the fore, more officials who are engaged in wrongdoings can also be trapped.

In Gwalior, this scam was exposed and the strong steps have been taken to avoid such types of incidents in other departments. This was all possible because of Municipal Corporation ground staff and some leaders’ connivance which led to a huge loss to the Corporation.

On the instructions of Gwalior Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anay Dwivedi, FIR was lodged against former ZO Ashok Khare.

According to the sources, through illegal means, names of people were included as employees and their salaries that were around `2.50 lakh per month, were withdrawn overlooking rules and

regulations. There were so many departments in which the related people to leaders and officers were kept in services and through illegal source crores of salaries were withdrawn.

According to the Gwalior Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dwivedi, those who have committed embezzlement would keep facing the tunes. After this case in Municipal Corporation has been cracked, other departments are also under scanner. If there is another issue like this in the city then the strictness in the deal would be followed, Dwivedi added.

The FIR was lodged against the Municipal Corporation officer and the Municipal department will continue to investigate the matter in other departments also. It is assumed that stern action would be taken against the guilty and the police would also investigate whether the names mentioned in the salary-sheet are genuine or not.
