Govt takes action to control anaemia amongst vulnerable

PNS

Realizing the devastating effects of anaemia on the health of the vulnerable, especially children under the age of 19 years , the Government has set in motion a comprehensive set of actions for the prevention and control of it.

Madhya Pradesh is among the States with the highest prevalence of anaemia, especially in women and children, posing a major threat to maternal and child survival. Anemia, a manifestation of under-nutrition and poor intake of iron has been a serious health problem, casing a substantial increase in child death rate.

Taking cognizance of this, the government, in collaboration with the National Health Mission has developed a guideline for the control of iron deficiency in children.

As per the guideline all the Chief Medical and Health Officers and District Education Officers have been instructed to make arrangements for the supply of Iron folic acid supplements to all schools immediately after the summer vacations. The children from class 1 to class 12 will be administrated the supplements under the supervision of the teachers. In case the supplements are administrated at home, the parents must be advised about the dose and procedures to be followed.

The registration of the children and the adequate supply of the supplements will be under the supervision of the CMHOs and DEOs.
