'Govt claims of zero tolerance over corruption hollow'

Staff Reporter

Right To Information (RTI) activist from the State capital Ajay Dubey has alleged that the Madhya Pradesh Government’s claims of zero tolerance over corruption are hollow and merely eyewash to the people of the State.

Dubey in a statement here on Monday said, “How hollow are the MP Government claims of zero tolerance over corruption could be gauged with the fact that a complaint of corruption was lodged against a State Administrative Services (SAS) officer Arun Tomar in the year 1994-95 with the lokayukta, when Congress was in the power.

The lokayukta, after enquiry against Tomar, found the complaint correct and recommended Departmental Enquiry (DE) against the officer in the year 1998.”

Dubey further said that the so called honesty of the BJP Government of the State could be seen by the fact that it’s General Administration Department (GAD) after pressing the issue for years closes the case illegally by informing about the lokayukta recommendations secretly to the Cabinet and the lokayukta.

He said that suddenly the case came in the knowledge of the lokayukta and it reopened the case and the shameless Government got its enquiry done by the

technical committee that found the said officer guilty and recommended for hard punishment. The State Government sent it to MP Public Service Commission for confirmation.

The commission returned the file to the Government with its comments to punish the said officer but the Chief Minister who boasts of his clear image sidelined all these recommendations and after twenty years forgave Tomar. Now the matter would soon be placed before the Cabinet for confirmation of the remission provided by the Chief Minister, he added.

Dubey also member of Transparency International said, “Our question is with the Government — is this good governance and zero tolerance over corruption that after keeping case of corruption pending for twenty years the guilty officer has been forgiven and no action was taken against the GAD officials who tried to finish the case by adopting criminal ways.”
