Extending support to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the controversy regarding providing help to former Indian Premier league boss lalit Modi in gaining emergency travel papers in Britan, BJP vice-president and Madhya Pradesh incharge Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, said that the party and the Government stands by her.

While talking to media on Monday, Sahasrabuddhe said, "Swaraj took the decision on humanitarian grounds. We have not added the honorific to any terrorist. We have not withdrawn charges against any criminal. We have only helped an Indian origin person during emergency." Whether similar help will be provided to everyone facing criminal charges, he said that it will depend on case-to-case.

Speaking about the Maha Jansampark Abhiyan (massive public contact drive), Sahasrabuddhe admitted that 10 per cent of people who became members of BJP during the recent membership drive could be non-serious.

He said that the people of three categories became membersof the party during the drive: first, who are self-inspired, second, who have been inspired by someone and third, who are not serious. He said that the objective of the massive contact programme was to interact with serious members.

Commenting on the seminar organised by the State Government over crop insurance scheme, he said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has done commendable work towards making agriculture a profitable profession.

He hopes that the seminar paves the way for formulation of an effective crop insurance scheme which could be beneficial for the peasants, he added.

Replying to a query, Sahasrabuddhe said Prime Minster Narendra Modi does not believe in populism. The BJP is of the view that humanitarian policies should be implemented only where it is absolutely necessary. For other instances, governance should be run on scientific lines.
