Govindpura-based Goodricke has launched its ‘Tea Packaging Unit’ under its ‘corporate social responsibility’ initiative for mentally challenged people, here on Sunday. The unit is being supported by Digdarshika, a social organisation.

Altogether, 10 mentally challenged people are employed in this unit and they have been given special training in tea packaging.

The plant manager Rajeshwar Tiwari formally inaugurated the unit. Goodricke has contributed `50 lakh to set up the unit.

In order to spread awareness and concern about various mental disabilities and day to day challenges faced by mentally challenged children and adults, the company

had launched ‘Ummeed Ka Pyala’ - a unique campaign in the month of February this year.

The campaign was supported by Bollywood film director Anurag Basu. Under the campaign, a canter was flagged off from Bhopal and it travelled across four cities and 16 towns of Madhya Pradesh over a period of two months. Cups of tea were served from the canter at a price of `1.

The amount received from campaign was handed over to Digdarshika.

Tiwari said, “Goodricke group is closely associated with the cause of supporting children and adults with disabilities. Our initiative ‘Ummeed ka Pyala’ is a significant step towards helping the disabled by teaching them to lead a normal life without fear and hesitation.

Goodricke has always been vocal about the cause of the under privileged and this is our latest endeavour to reach out to them.”
