GI tagging of wild mangoes proposed

Staff Reporter

Under "one district-one product", the state government will get GI tagging done for wild mangoes and teak of Betul district. The forest department has started work in this direction.

The department will soon organise a workshop in which experts on teak and jungle mango will discuss in detail and then a proposal will be prepared. With this, Betul's teak and wild mangoes will get recognition at the international level. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh has done GI tagging of various regional crops including Basmati rice, Sarbati wheat.

Betul's teak wood is preferred all over the country due to its good quality. Hundred year old trees are also found in the forest of the district, which are tall and straight. It doesn't get mite.
