Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that an inquiry would be conducted by a police officer of the Inspector General (IG) rank into the alleged assault of a person by policemen.
Replying to a calling attention notice brought by Mukesh Nayak of the Congress, Gaur said police had arrested Rahul Singh, Mayur Singh and Jai Singh along with illegal weapons while planning a dacoity from Mudakhoda forest in Satna on August 6, 2013. Other accused Ashish Singh and Rajan Singh managed to escape. All the three arrested were presented before Additional Sessions Judge, who sent them to judicial custody. The accused were sent to jail in Satna on the next day.
When Mayur Singh complained of ill-health, he was admitted to the Jail Hospital, which referred him to the District Hospital. He was later referred to Rewa Medical College. He later received treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Nayak and other Congress member alleged that police arrested Satna-resident Mayur Singh, who works in Jammu and Kashmir, on false charges and meted out inhuman treatment to him by inserting a rod coated with petrol and sand in his anus.
The Congress members were not ready to accept anything below than suspension of the guilty police personnel. However, the minister stated that at least the matter be first investigated before taking any action and then announced the enquiry. As the members pointed that the whole episode reeked of wrongdoing with the victim and demanded an inquiry, Gaur said that the matter would be probed by an IG rank police official.
