Furniture worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in a massive fire which broke out late in the night at Peergate area; reason remained unknown claimed fire tenders.

Four shops having plastic furniture were damaged badly in the fire which broke at around 1 in the night.

According to the fire brigade officials, the reason behind the fire could be ascertained as it could be a short circuit borne fire or it is possible that the fire broke out due to crackers on the eve of Diwali.

It was a massive fire and around a dozen fire tender vehicles took around two hours to pacify the fire.

Fire brigade officer Sajid Ali said that the fire was massive and was spreading rapidly inside the shops due to which the shutters were broken to control the fire. The consecutive shops were parts of the same shop.

The timely control of the fire saved the furniture which would be gutted to ashes in the fire. The wires caught fire inside the shop after the fire broke and explosions were clear and loud in the electricity wires, he added.

Ali said that there were incidents of fire in few others areas of the city as well and were controlled by the locals and few required the help of the fire tenders. Kotwali police told that no one has lodged any complaint with the police. The police were aware of the fire but none of the victims who suffered loss in the fire reported any damages till late in the evening on Friday.
