Jehangirabad police have booked fraudsters for duping a 40-year-old woman to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh in the name of lottery prize offered by a telecom company; a complaint was lodged on Thursday.

Police said that the victim woman Anju Bhagat (40) of Roshanpura lodged a complaint of duping by fraudsters to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh by selecting her son Jaiprakash as lucky customer who won Rs 25 lakh prize.

In her complaint the victim stated that her 20-year-old son Jaiprakash received a phone call on 20 August last year from a fraudster posing as representative of Jio Company who informed that he has won lottery prize of Rs 25 lakh as her son has been selected as lucky customer by the company.

The fraudsters asked her son to deposit cash to get the lottery prize. Jaiprakash informed her mother and when she agreed deposited Rs 1.50 lakh in parts in five bank accounts in the name of processing fee and money for the arrangement of press conference to be organised to hand over cash prize to them.

After providing the money fraudsters stopped all communications which alerted the two but it was late as they were trapped and lost the money. The victims tried to contact the accused and found their contact numbers switched off.

The victim approached Jehangirabad police station and lodged a complaint and after investigation police have registered a case under sections 420 and 34 of the IPC and started further investigation.
