Fourth 'real' accused in Bhopal gang rape case caught

Staff Reporter

The district police on Monday managed to arrest the fourth elusive accused in the sensational gang rape case on the fifth day.

The police had on Monday afternoon declared a reward of Rs 10,000 on the fourth accused, as in past five days the police officials despite making all-out efforts had failed to make any progress.

However, in the evening the news regarding the arrest of the accused identified as Ramesh Mehra arrived. In the beginning, the police officials declined to confirm it saying that first they would get him identified by the victim and only then he would be produced before media.

Notably, earlier, the police had arrested a youth claiming that he was the fourth accused, but later the victim had claimed that he was not one of the accused persons. Finally, the innocent youth was later released and the police officials this time were not in a position to take any chance.

Within a couple of hours, the police officials made all out efforts to get it confirmed that he was the genuine culprit and then disclosed it.

DIG (Crime Against Women) Sudhir laad, who is heading the Special Investigating team (SIT), told 'The Pioneer' that the fourth accused has been arrested. He also claimed that the official identification would be done on Tuesday.

Police sources said that the accused was arrested from a house of his relative on Kolar Road. He told police that he was hiding there for the past five days.

Meanwhile, the girl students from different parts of the city came on the roads on Monday to protest the gang rape and demanding security to the girls in Bhopal.

On Monday, having failed on almost all fronts, the police started a special drive to nab suspected miscreants from near the railway tracks and near the coaching classes. Around two dozen such suspects were detained on Monday.
