Staff Reporter

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and labour Omprakash Dhruve on Monday reviewed Public Distribution System with food department officials of districts of Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions at Academy of Administration. Principal Secretary Food KC Gupta, commissioner food Faiz Ahmad Kidwai and MD MARKFED BM Sharma, controller weight and measure SK Jain and other officers were present.

Dhruve said that GPS should be installed in vehicles transporting food grains at fair price shops and its control will be at issue centre. It would be written with special colour that the vehicles are carrying food grains.

He directed to ensure the implementation of the system with immediate effect. Minister Dhruve said that civil supplies corporation will include this condition in agreement with transporters. Agreements will be made only those transporters who follow the condition.

The Minister said that system to transport wheat from procurement centre to warehouses and fair price shops will be strengthened. FAQ quality wheat will be procured.

Samples of FAQ quality will be kept at procurement centres so that farmers can see it. Inspection system will be put in the place at the time of wheat storage in warehouse and it would be ensured that wheat won't get rotten.

He expressed displeasure over wheat stored in warehouses unnecessarily. He said that wheat double than the need of district is stored in warehouses.

Warehouse owners get rent but the government and civil supplies corporation have to pay rent of wheat getting rotten and stored unnecessarily. That should not occur. District should store wheat as per its demand and additional wheat should be given to FCI.

Similarly, Dhruve expressed annoyance over unnecessary transportation cost.  He said that supply of food grains should be made from nearest district.
