Only a few days are left for the board examination and my son is not paying attention on his studies. He is so annoyed with his father and me that he is not ready to study. Everyday there is clash between my husband and my son at home. My husband forces him to study and on the other hand my son rebels. At this crucial time I am getting afraid and don’t know how to tackle the situation,” shares a parent from Bhopal.

The CBSE board exams are on the doorsteps and the clash of parents and children are coming up this year on CBSE tele-counselling.

Notably, to help students dealing with the stress, CBSE launched the pre-exam counseling on February 9 and the counselors are dealing with severe cases now among parents and their children. Shikha Rastogi, former principal of World Way International School has been appointed as the counsellor from Bhopal.

Talking to The Pioneer, she said, “As the exams are near and the students and their parents are getting hyper with the mathematics paper too. Cases of severe stress are received over tele-counseling,” shares students’ counselor Shikha Rastogi.

Sharing one of the cases that came to her from Jharkhand Rastogi says, “Once I received a call from a woman telling me that his son is not studying and not even talking to anybody.”

She further said, “His mother is afraid that her son is going into depression and I should talk to him. Then I had a word with her son. He was worried about his scoring.”

“I have told the students and parents both that the things will be sorted out and will be in favour of students. Only the students need to concentrate instead of fearing the exam,” added Rastogi.

Students are afraid to appear in exams and most of the pressure is from parent’s side, she added.

Parents are also in the same pressure as same their children are in.  Rastogi says, “Parents at times over react. They should stop panicking and should assist their child in revision the study material.” Around 30 to 40 calls are received per day over tele-counselling.

Rastogi says, “Students get so hyper that their anxiety takes control over them. We suggest them to stay calm and prepare well.”

Students with high anxiety are advised to regularly keep in touch so that a regular monitoring can help them to bring them out of that situation, she added. Advising students she says that at this time they need to revise what they have learned and solve sample papers time to time.
