Ex-Min Gaur puts Govt in dock over financial situation

Staff Reporter

The Madhya Pradesh Government was on Monday put in the dock by senior ruling BJP member and former minister Babulal Gaur over its financial situation.

During the Zero Hour, Gaur said that the regime had presented a budget of nearly Rs 1.50 lakh crore during the previous session. The dispensation is reeling under huge debt burden and its financial situation is precarious.

Speaker Sitsaran Sharma pointed out that no budget related matter was raised during the Zero Hour. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava said that he could not understand the reason for Gaur speaking on the subject when a discussion on the supplementary budget is listed on the agenda today.

Several Congress members, including Ramniwas Rawat, tried to support Gaur but the Speaker disallowed them. Gaur was recently forced to resign from the Council of Ministers for being over 75 years old.

Notably, ever since, Gaur has been dropped from the cabinet, he is leaving no stone unturned in cornering the State government. Right from the first day, when this Monsoon session of the State assembly commenced, he is raising difficult questions to the ministers.

On Friday, he sought to corner his party's government on floor of the legislative Assembly over Bhopal and Indore metro rail projects, which are likely to be completed by 2022.

“Urban Administration and Development Department prepared a project to run metro rail in Bhopal and Indore around 6-7 years ago. Thereafter, E Sreedharan of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) visited two cities, but since then the project couldn't kick off as required due to indifference and red-tapeism, Gaur added.

Replying to Gaur's call attention motion in the House, Urban Administration and Development Minister Maya Singh contended that it was not true that her department had prepared the metro project 6-7 years ago.
