Jabalpur Chamber of Commerce has written a letter to the both Central and State Governments for establishing of defense hub and defense cluster in Jabalpur.
Senior Vice Chairman of Jabalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries Himanshu Khare said that for the project of manufacturing of Agni missile worth Rs 1500 crore DRDO had demanded 1500 hectares of land. The state government provided 600 hectares and 900 hectares would be provided by forest department in return of Rs 68 crore.
Prime Minister and Chief Minister had announced development of defence cluster but it never materialised.
Chairman of Jabalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries Prem Dubey said that cluster based business could flourish in Jabalpur and which could be seen in case of readymade garment complex.
Notably, cost of single missile is around Rs 50 crore and if the project would have been started in the city small scale industries would have been benefitted and youths might have got employment.
The lack of seriousness by State and Central Government towards proposed defense cluster in the city ‘Agni’ missile project would have been launched in the city but lack of willingness in representatives and pessimist attitude of State towards city is acting as impediment in the development of the city.
