The Special Police Establishment (SPE) of lokayukta nabbed an Assistant Engineer at Chandbad MPSEB office accepting bribe of Rs20,000 for clearing a bill of a building contractor on Friday.
According to the lokayukta officials, Sehore resident Shyamlal Chaturvedi works as a building contractor and was awarded with the contract of constructing Zonal Office at Indrapuri last year.
After the construction of the Zonal office for the final payment of Rs18 lakh when the victim contacted and requested the department officials to clear the payment he was initially provided with excuses and later when he contacted Assitant Engineer Sudheer Kumar Hundalee he demanded four percent of the bill amount.
The victim initially acceded to the demands but later decided to informe to the authorities regarding the corruption in the department and lodged a complaint with the lokayukta. On the receipt of the complaint the lokayukta officials trapped the accused. They told the victim to inform the accused that he would be providing the bribe in demands and would Rs20,000 on Friday while the remaining payment would be made later.
In the afternoon when the victim went to provide the demanded money the lokayukta officials nabbed Hundalee and seized Rs20,000.
Accused is posted as Assitant Engineer with Madhya Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company.
A case under section 7and 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered by the lokayukta. The accused would be suspended as he has been caught involved in corrupt practices claimed the company officials.
