'Ekla Chalo Re' brings alive life of Tagore

Staff Reporter

The Bhopalites witnessed the life of the great writer and composer of the country Rabindranath Tagore in a solo performance here on Wednesday. The play ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ showcasing the life span of Rabindranath Tagore was staged at Shaheed Bhavan.

Directed and conceived by a renowned theatre director of the city Tarun Dutt Pandey, the play was solely acted by Yogesh Kumar Umathe. Further, the play is written by a Hindi author Ranjan.

The play begins with showcasing a sole statue of Rabindranath Tagore on stage. Suddenly the statue comes to life and there stands Yogesh Kumar Umathe as Tagore. He begins narrating his story to the audience in a very hypnotizing manner and the audience listened to him with rapt attention. On the stage, there was a screen where the rare pictures of Tagore were sliding one after the other as the story moves forward.

Tagore was the 14th child of his parents and 8th among the brothers. He had a keen interest in writing and he began to do so. He loved writing so much that whatever thought comes to his mind he writes about it and then he did wonders. The play wonderfully gave a blur that Rabindranath Tagore was all alone and he walked aloof on his path. He was a companion to all but there was no companion with him. That is the reason he wrote, ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ which means Walk Alone.

The play concludes with Tagore once again turning into a statue. Few rare incidents from his life span were beautifully showcased on stage. Wondrous synchronization of the classic music and soothing lights along with the audio effects added more zeal in the presentation.

Very uniquely presented the play was all about Rabindranath Tagore i.e. from his childhood days to his young days and till he took his last breath. With the sensible use of technology, the play became even more powerful and also interesting to watch.

Notably, this was the second presentation of the show. While talking to The Pioneer director of the play, Tarun Dutt Pandey said, “This concept was in my thoughts for past three years and since then I have been thinking about the concept of the play. After teaming up with Ranjanji we have prepared ‘Ekla Chalo Re’.
