Easter Vigil was observed in some of the Catholic Christians Churches of the city through online transmission. After the death of Jesus Christ (Good Friday) Easter, the resurrection of Jesus becomes necessary for Christians' faith.
Many leaders have come and gone in history and it is addressed to them with the word 'Late' but Jesus is not addressed ‘late’ for he has risen from the dead.
Christians' God is not the God of dead but alive in every moment of our lives and this fact becomes the centre of Christians’ life.
The night vigil was very important as the new fire and water the new creation gets blessed.
The Paschal candle is lit from the new fire as a sign of new light in the darkness. At this moment all the faithful get a candle lighted saying "Thanks be to God". The climax of the Easter Vigil Service was the celebration of Eucharist remembering Jesus’ first celebration with his disciples after his resurrection.
The ceremony preceded – the blessing of the new fire, the lighting of the Paschal Candle, the proclamation of the victory of Jesus Christ in the words of the ancient hymn of exultation and thanksgiving. The selected readings from Old and New Testaments recalling God’s mighty deeds in the history of salvation were proclaimed followed by the blessing of baptismal water and renewal of baptismal vows.
All these pointed to the uniqueness of the night, when Jesus rose from the dead victorious over sin and death, bringing new life. The Eucharist is essentially the recalling and re-enacting the death and resurrection of Christ.
Fr Maria Stephen, PRO, said that Jesus' Resurrection for Christians is not merely a historical event but a life giving event to all those who believe in him. Father expressed his hope that Coronavirus may vanish after Easter and said all Christians unitedly prayed for the elimination of CoronaVirus from the world.
