Noted radiologist and dedicated social worker Dr Shailesh Lunawat was honoured with the prestigious Sanjeevani Award during the regional conference of Lions International held on Sunday. He was felicitated for his decades-long commitment to selfless social service.

The award was presented by chief guest Raju Manwani from Mumbai and regional chairman of Lions International, Gyandev Mishra. The organisation lauded Dr Lunawat’s humanitarian contributions, acknowledging his relentless efforts to serve the underprivileged with compassion and dedication.

Several dignitaries including Lion Kamal Bhandari, Dr R.K. Chaurasia, Manish Shah, and Suyash Kulshreshtha congratulated Dr Lunawat on receiving the honour.

A staunch follower of Jainism, Dr Lunawat holds key positions in the Jain community and medical fraternity. He has been organizing large-scale free health camps across Bhopal for decades, particularly in slum areas, with the help of a committed team of volunteers.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he ran a regular community kitchen and provided round-the-clock medical assistance to affected patients. His humanitarian spirit was widely appreciated last year when he assisted in the delivery of a baby aboard a running train between Maihar and Satna. With no medical aid available and emergency services unresponsive, Dr Lunawat coordinated the delivery with the help of fellow women passengers, ensuring the safety of both mother and child.

His unwavering commitment to public service continues to inspire many within and beyond the medical community.
